Ronald E. Mooney, 82, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Monday morning, December 28, 2020, at 5:35 a.m. in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Medical Center due to complications from covid and pneumonia where he had been a patient since December 20. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving and devoted family.
Ron was born July 16, 1938, in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Clara (Bertucci) Mooney. Ron is survived by his wife, Marilynn J. (Carswell) Mooney; son, Derrick Eugene Mooney, and daughter, Denna Lynn Mooney; brother Eugene “Sonny” Bertucci and sister Ramona Frisina of Taylorville; several nieces and nephews, and the beloved family yorkie, “Angel.”
Ron graduated from Taylorville High School in 1956 and upon his graduation went into the Computer Science/Data Processing field. Ron retired in June of 1995 from the Department of Information Technology with the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office with 36 years of state service.
Ron was a kind and loving husband to his wife of 58 years as well as an amazing father to both his son and daughter. Ron enjoyed antiquing with his wife and spent his free time discovering and tracing his family’s Irish and Italian genealogy. He had a love for westerns and was an avid fan of Gunsmoke and John Wayne. His wisdom and wit will be severely missed.
Per Ron’s request and his family there will be no formal funeral service.
