The youngest of five children: (surviving) Leslie (Nancy Neuber) of Iowa City, Larry (Sharon Clark) of Springfield and Sharon Morescki (deceased Gene) of Phoenix, and Jerry (deceased).

Married Doris Ellen (Guernsey) on Jan 30, 1966

Roger and Doris started their life together in the Cabbage Patch, where they had their two children, Beth and Becky, and Roger renovated their first house on the 2800 block of south 13th street. He worked as a draftsman and then an electrician with CWLP.

In 1980, Roger built a house and moved his family to the Rochester School District, from which both his girls graduated in the 1980’s. Doris had worked at the US Post Office for several years, but her heart was always in Nursing. Roger was always supportive of her desire to become a RN. During that time, Roger continued with CWLP and ended his 40-year career there as Electrical Maintenance Supervisor of the Dalman Plant while Doris served as an oncology nurse at St John’s Hospital, careers they both were proud of.

In 1998 he and Doris both retired and moved to Lake of the Ozarks full-time, where Roger enjoyed fishing and golfing and playing cards. He and Doris made lots of new friends but missed their family and friends back home in Springfield. They returned to Lake Petersburg in 2005 and then to Springfield (2014) to be near the grandkids.

Love of the outdoors was a huge part of Rogers life, so he and CWLP friends took many fishing trips to Ozarks, Table Rock, and Canada. He also had a horse-shoe tourney named after him because of his skill in that arena: The Cullers Open. Pinnacle and bowling were memorable pastimes as well during their kids’ early years. During retirement, golf became his focus and he and Doris both enjoyed golfing with Florida and Aruba friends, and of course Roger and his buddies played regularly at many different courses in central Illinois.

After the passing of the love of his life Doris (2018), Roger treasured even more his time with friends and family. He was always a Giver – a giver of time, labor, ideas, money. He was a friend to all and is already sorely missed.

Roger leaves behind two daughters: Elizabeth Marie Cullers and Rebecca Sue (Tim) Klatt, both of Springfield; three grandkids: Marellen Cullers and Dalton and Nolan Klatt, also of Springfield. Roger’s grandson Dalton serves in the 82nd Airborne of the US Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He is a combat medic. This made his grandpa proud as he himself had served in the Army after high school.
