Norlyn "Bennie" Cox Obituary

Norlyn “Bennie” Cox, 90, of Rochester passed away on May 11, 2022 at his home. 

He was born on April 7, 1932 to the parents of Bryce and Wilma Cox, of Timewell.

He married Bonnie Caruthers on April 18, 1959, in Waverly, Illinois and she survives.

Bennie attended Brown County Schools.  He farmed with his father, as well as working numerous other jobs, in the community before moving to Rochester, where he retired as a maintenance worker at Rochester State Bank.

Bennie served his country in the Army from 1954 to 1956.   He was a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion and a lifetime Masonic Member, with his current membership in Rochester.   He was a member of the Timewell Baptist Church and the Rochester Christian Church. 

Bennie had several hobbies, including wood working, camping, swinging on the porch and listening to country music, but his greatest joy was visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bonnie of Rochester.  5 children Barbara (Paul) Obertino of Sherman; Becky (Gregg) Tallman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Belinda (Steve) Harper of Harlingen, Texas; Brian Cox of Bloomington and Betsy (Charles) Hendricks of Sherman. 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.  1 Sister Joan DeJaynes of Mexico, Missouri, along with a niece and a nephew.

Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 on Saturday with a 1:00 Funeral Service at the Rochester Christian Church, with a 4:00 graveside service at Mound Cemetary near Timewell.   Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Donations will be to the Rochester Christian Church, Timewell Baptist Church or the Donor’s Choice.
