Obituary
Michael E. Gass, 71, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, August 14 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Mike was born April 19, 1952, in Decatur, IL. the son of Herbert Dale and Elsie Doris (Lake) Gass. He married his high school sweetheart, Diana Mendenhall on December 19, 1970 and they shared 50 years of marriage together. Mike served his country in the United States Army from 1972-1974. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, and enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing. He could fix anything and was always willing to help anyone out. Wherever he went he always knew someone or made a new friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana Gass; and one brother Allen Gass.
He is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Melissa) and Kyle (Tracey) Gass; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; two brothers, Rod and Bruce Gass and one sister, Cheryl Gass.
Private family services will be held and burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to any cancer research fund, or the Alzheimer’s association.
Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
