Obituary

Melissa Ann Woehl, 44, of Mequon, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Froedtert Center for Advanced Care, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Melissa was born on September 21, 1978, the daughter of James W. and Ruth Ann (Huffman) Theis in Springfield, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Wilmer H. and Clara M. Theis and Glenn A. and Helena E. Huffman.

Melissa is survived by her parents; her loving husband, Scott D. Woehl and son, Hunter J. Woehl; two brothers, Christopher M. (Shannon) Theis and Jeffrey A. (Amber) Theis; father-in-law, Roger (Sheryl) Woehl; brother-in-law, Dustin (Natalia) Woehl as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Melissa graduated from Rochester High School in 1996 where she participated in many extra-curricular and outreach activities. She continued her education at the University of Miami which included a summer of studies in Austria and a summer internship at the Port of Los Angeles, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000. She completed her education at the University of Delaware, earning the degree of Master of Marine Policy.

Melissa met her husband, Scott, while at Miami and they were married in Springfield, Illinois in 2004. They began their married life in San Antonio, Texas while Scott fulfilled his military commitment. In 2008, the couple re-located to Chicago, Illinois where both began their careers in the health services and technology field and subsequently re-located to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. During this time, Melissa became an avid cyclist and enjoyed her morning rides with Scott in the beautiful Wisconsin countryside. They also participated in a number of annual Wisconsin biking tours as well as Trek Bike Tours to California, Italy, France and Ireland which added life-long memories of their shared adventures together.

In 2015 Melissa and Scott welcomed their son, Hunter, into their family. Melissa concluded her working career with Johnson Controls two years later and became a devoted stay at home mom.

Melissa’s life story is defined by her boundless love, patience and compassion for family and friends. It is those memories we cherish as we celebrate her life and the time we have been together. While she faced significant health challenges over the past fourteen years, she found great joy in service – helping, giving, listening and supporting others.
