John Reed Obituary

John C. Reed, of Edinburg Illinois, passed away December 19, 2020.  He was born Dec 3, 1930 to parents Ralph and Haldeen Reed of Edinburg (deceased). He is survived by his brother Robert Reed (wife Nancy) of Edinburg, IL, daughter, Stephanie Reed of Ann Arbor, MI and step daughters, Kate Cross (husband Mark) of Olympia, WA and Karen Fisher-Griffin (spouse Lee) of Ypsilanti MI; as well as three granddaughters, and four nieces and nephews in central Illinois.

 

John served his country with honor during the Korean Conflict after graduating with honors from the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana and the University of Wisconsin where he earned his PhD.  He was a member of the Edinburg Lion’s Club and Oddfellows Lodge; served as an Edinburg school board member and board member for the Edinburg United Methodist Church.

 

He enjoyed photography and travel, visiting American National Parks, and later England and Germany professionally. After retirement he visited China, Egypt and Israel among others.

 

A celebration of life and the interment of his remains in the Edinburg Cemetery will be held in the near future and due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic will be limited to family members.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in honor of John C. Reed to the Edinburg United Methodist Church, P.O Box 170, Edinburg IL 62531, or to The Animal Protective League of Sangamon County at 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
