James A. (Jimmy) Vitton Sr.

James A. Vitton Sr. (Jimmy), -Springfield, IL formerly of Chatham died Wednesday November 8th, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center.

James was born February 19, 1940 in Taylorville, IL the son of James D. and Anna (Check) Vitton. He married Judith L. Vitton on December 8th, 1976.

James was a 1958 graduate of Urbana High School and attended U of I Champaign Urbana. James owned and operated the Chatham Pub and Tavern in the 70’s and 80’s. He also owned and operated the Illini Advertising Co. from 1983-2008.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna Check Vitton; wife, Judith Vitton; and stepdaughter, Michelle Welch.

He is survived by sons, James A. Vitton Jr., and Jeffery S. Vitton; daughter, Ann M. Anderson; stepdaughter, Robin (Gary) Estes, Pennie (Dennis) Bradbury; brothers, Joe (Marcia) Vitton and Jerry (Janice) Vitton; grandson, Zachary; granddaughters, Lindsey and Ashley; 5 Great Grandchildren; cousin, Sue Weiss along with several nieces and nephews.

James was a 2 time varsity letter winner at Urbana H.S.  He was captain of the 1958 cross country team. He was a member of the 1967 State Class B fast pitch softball champs. He coached AAU Basketball and Little League. James was a diehard Illini Fan.   

Cremation services will be accorded and Graveside Services will be held at Chatham Cemetery, 505 W Walnut St, Chatham, IL 62629 at 11:00am on Thursday November 16, 2023.
