Harold R. Weaver, 97, of Rochester, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his home.
He was born on March 9, 1924, in Springfield, the son of George E. and Anna (Westbrook) Weaver. Harold married Josephine Nave Richards on April 2, 1948, and she preceded him in death in March 14, 2004
Harold served in the US Army during WWII, fighting in the Battle of Luzon in the Pacific Theater, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. He worked for over 32 years at Sangamon Electric and at Camp Lincoln for 13 years. Harold was an attendant at Wilson Park Funeral Home for 20 years, helping on visitations and services. He was a member of VFW Post 11463, American Legion Post 274, and the Rochester Historical Preservation Society and was named the oldest citizen in Rochester.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Homer “Joe” Weaver
Harold is survived by his son Michael Weaver; three grandsons, Robert (Amy) , Ryan (significant other, Daphne) and Justin (Liz) Weaver; two step-grandsons, Dylan and Josh McCarty; sister, Grace Brawner; niece, Carol Surratt; nephews, Gary Funderburk and Richard (Pat) Weaver and several other great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00PM on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. in Rochester.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 24 at 10AM. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery where he will receive military honors from the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
Per Harold’s wishes, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project instead of sending flowers.
