Doris Decker Obituary

Doris Elizabeth Decker, age 84 of Springfield, died in her home on 12/14/2021. She was born January 16, 1937 in Springfield. The daughter of Benjamin Franklin Marbold and Margaret Anna Rose Yung Marbold of Greenview.

She graduated from Lanphier High School in 1955, worked at the Patheon Theater and Pillsbury Mills. She married Stanley Wallace Decker in Springfield, they later divorced. They had three sons, Kirk Newland Decker, Eric Scott Decker and Kevin Dean Decker. Doris was a homemaker, was an Avon Lady Representative for 14 years, worked at Jeffery Allen’s, did sewing and alterations. Retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue in 2002 after 32 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Third Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for several years. Member of the Springfield Civic Garden Club, Menard Historical Society, Historic Marbold Farmstead Assoc., Christian Women’s Connection, LHS Supper Club Class of 55 and volunteer at Mini O’Brien Crisis Nursery for several years. She was a gardener, with a yard full of flowers and liked to feed her birds and squirrels. She liked to travel and enjoyed her arts and crafts, reading and knitting.

She was proceeded in death by her son Kirk at age 9, her parents, three sisters Frances and Anita Marbold, Dorothy VanDyke (Marvin), two brothers Henry (Lola) and Benjamin (Blanche) Marbold. She is survived by her two sons Eric and Kevin, who live in AZ. Three special nieces Barbra VanDyke/Brown, Karen Vandyke/Geever (Mark), Nancy Vandyke/Leon and their children. She also had many dear and faithful friends. 

Visitation and Funeral will be held at Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 N. 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702   on Tuesday December 21st, 2021. Visitation will start at 11AM and the Funeral Services will be 12 noon. Burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview following the service.

In lieu of flowers for the memorial at 3rd Pres Church, donations can be given to the Historic Marbold Farmstead Assoc., PO BOX 438 Greenview, IL 62642
