Elmer R. “Dick” Rogers II, 66, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center.
Dick was born on July 29, 1953 in Springfield the son of Elmer and Edith Ramsey Rogers. He married his soulmate, his best friend, his angel, Joanie Regnier, on October 23, 2010.
Dick was a graduate of Lincoln Land Community College and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He was a professor of Automotive Technology at Lincoln Land Community College for over 30 years. During his career, he impacted the lives of thousands of students and made some lifelong friends. Dick was passionate, hardworking, and a kid at heart that found beauty and love in everything in life.
He was a former Sprint car racer and a lifelong, avid deer hunter. He enjoyed spending his time at his sanctuary (farm), riding his Harley, bird watching, working in his garden and spending time with his beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Thomas; and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joanie Rogers; son, Elmer Richard Rogers III; daughters, Melissa Rogers, Kara Caselton, Amy Caselton and Molly Caselton; granddaughter, Dayshia Rogers-Gordon; sister, Janet (Tom) Miller; fur babies, Nitro, Lucy, Bella and Kiki; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Cremation was accorded. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ryan Landers Memorial Scholarship at LLCC.
