Bruce H. "Butch" Lyon

Bruce H. “Butch” Lyon, 80 of rural Buffalo, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

 Butch was born on June 28, 1943, in Springfield, the son of John “Bub” Lyon and Katherine (Rogers) Higgins. He married Carol Remley on March 11, 1987 and she survives.

Butch was a lifelong farmer, starting at the age of 8. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and building deer stands. He was a member of the Illiopolis Christian Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jason Lyon; and one grandson, Zachary Lyon.

Butch is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jerry (Tia) Lyon, Stevie (Kristen) Kaufman, Mark Kaufman, and Scott (Sarah) Luna; two daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Von Behren and Stephanie Cunningham; seven grandsons, two granddaughters and two great grandsons; two brothers Tommy and Henry Higgins; and three sisters, Kay (Jack) Byers, Sally Moore, and Nancy (Mike) Whitehead.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00PM at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 432 7th Street in Illiopolis. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Illiopolis.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
