We are sad to announce the passing of Betty A Barthel of Rochester. She died at the age of 99 on July 27. Betty passed peacefully at St. John's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born to Oliver and Mildred Pointer, at their home, in Farmerville on Oct. 21, 1923.
Betty's Dad loved to dance. He shared that love with her. He started teaching Betty when she was just a child.
Betty spent her youth in Farmersville. While in high school, she was a waitress, at the local diner. Betty was a graduate of Farmersville High School.
She had one daughter, Melinda Taylor, from a previous marriage. She proceeded her in death.
Betty did secretarial work. One job was at a dentist's office. That's where she met the love of her life, Dale Barthel. She and Dale resided in Rochester for many years. He proceeded her in death.
Betty shared her love of dancing with Dale. She taught him several steps. Dale began to love dancing as much as Betty. They went to many ballroom dances almost every week. Whenever there was a big band in town, she and Dale were there.
Betty certainly lived an interesting life, during the not quite a century that she was here. She definitely had stories to tell.
Betty leaves one surviving step son, John (Deb) Barthel of Oklahoma. She also leaves some step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a private graveside service at Camp Butler Cemetery where she will join Dale at their final resting place.
