Barbara Herchy Obituary

Barbara Herchy passed away on April 22, 2022, at her home.  Barb was born May 22, 1936 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Ethel Beckman Peters and Webster Peters.

Barb and her husband, Ron Herchy, were happily married for over 66 years.  Of this union, came a daughter, Pamela Herchy Kienzler. Pam departed this life on September 2, 2011 after a series of illnesses.

Barb graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield then worked at St. John’s Crippled Children’s School until it closed.  Barb spent the remainder of her career in several positions at Memorial Medical Center, retiring in 1998.  One of Barb’s proudest contributions was the development of the employee health program at Memorial. Barb remained committed to that work even after her retirement, continuing to work per diem for another 10 years.

Barb loved to play golf, crochet, work puzzles, read novels and to spend time with her family.

Barb is survived by her husband, Ron, and two grandchildren -Rachel Kienzler Black (James) and Daniel Kienzler (Randa)- and great-grandson Miles.

Arrangements are being handled by Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home.  Barb will be buried in a private service at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.  The family will be hosting an informal celebration of life on May 14th, from 3-5pm, at the Village Tea Room in Springfield, Illinois.
