William P Hewitt, 86, of Springfield, IL passed away on Wednesday August 16, 2023.
Bill was born in Springfield on February 11, 1937 and was the son of Harry and Pauline (Snook) Hewitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorthea Rose Hewitt; parents; brothers, Harry Jr, Ross, Robert,Wayne,Dale, Frank; and sisters, Hariett, Mary Louise, Dorothy, Jessie.
He is survived by his son, William "Rusty" Hewitt (Deborah) of Pierce City, MO; step children, Rita Black of Springfield, David Mattingly (Cindy) of Springfield, Kelly Fredricks (Randy), and Brian Mattingly (Jae).
Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Monica Parker, Levi Erskin, Amber Durbin, Jesse Gaches; step grandchildren, April Poggi, Daniela Pace (Bo), Crystal Mattingly (Brittney), David Mattingly II (Ashley), Journey Fredricks, and Matthew Mattingly; 17 Great/ Step Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; and one sister, Edith Lane of Bement, IL; as well as several Nieces and Nephews.
Bill loved being outside and watching nature in his backyard; particularly the birds, squirrels and the deer. Bill loved NASCAR and Illini Basketball and Football. He enjoyed fishing a great deal but he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Cremation services for Bill are being accorded. Graveside services are being held at Camp Butler National Cemetery 5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield, IL 62707, on Monday August 28, 2023 at 2:00PM. Guests wishing to attend the service are asked to get to Camp Butler after 1:40pm, and services will start promptly at 2:00pm.
Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
