William “Gil” Magill Corrington, 66, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at The Grove Rehab and Health Center in Jacksonville, Illinois.

He was born on June 8, 1959, in Springfield, the son of James Edward Corrington, Sr. and Mary Jane (Johnson) Corrington. He was a 1977 graduate of Springfield High School.

Bill lived a life full of adventure. His happiest times were spent taking day trips along the backroads, discovering new places to eat, and enjoying Sunday football. Some of his most cherished memories were of growing up in Leland Grove, where he took great pride in his family building one of the first homes on Illini Road. He always had a story to share about the mischievous adventures he and his childhood friends found themselves in.

Bill was outgoing and friendly, rarely going anywhere without running into someone he knew. He married Linda Tannahill on September 15, 2009.

He was also one of the most stubborn people you could meet—something anyone who knew him would quickly agree with—but that same determination helped him persevere over the last 15 years. Though he was the youngest child, he naturally took on the role of protector within his family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Springfield; his brother, James E. Corrington, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Sandra Fox of Savoy, Illinois; his brother-in-law, James Baker of Holden, Massachusetts; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lindy Baker.

Cremation was accorded by Wilson Park Funeral Home.
