Obituary

William D. “Bill” Marass, 73, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, in Springfield, Illinois.

Bill was born on April 18, 1952, in Elgin, Illinois, the son of William A. and Ellen Jane (Kells) Marass. He married Kelly Fountain and shared 42 years together, and raised three children.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement from Western Illinois University. Bill dedicated his career to public service, serving as a police officer for the Village of Rochester from October 15, 1981 through October 31, 2016, serving as Police Chief from February 10, 1997 until his retirement. In 2002, he furthered his professional accomplishments by graduating from the FBI Academy, Session 215.

Above all, Bill cherished time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pamela Pearson; and his father-in-law, Larry Fountain.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly Marass; his children, Andrea Marass, Matthew (Tiffani) Marass, and Kimberly Marass; five grandchildren, Jolynn Rice, Preston, Parker, Colby, and Charlie Marass; his brother, Michael (Carlos Torres) Marass; his sister, Kathleen (Carlos) Acevedo; his brother-in-law, Loring Pearson; his mother-in-law, Cindy Fountain; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m, at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Street, Rochester with a police walkthrough beginning at 1:30. Private burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail.

Memorial donations may be made to the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail.
