Wayne Martin Johnson, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Batavia, IL, where he resided for 81years, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at his daughter's home in Springfield.
Wayne was born on October 17, 1929, in Aurora, the son of Martin and Grace Johnson.
He graduated from Batavia High School in 1947 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, Wayne worked for Batavia Dairy and then for the U.S. Postal Service in Geneva, IL, until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Glenn Hansford, and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by daughters, Laurie (Mark) Lundin of Springfield and Sheila (Scott) Reeder of Batavia; son, Michael Johnson of Springfield; sister, Betty Hansford of St. Charles, IL; seven grandchildren, Christopher Lundin, Dakota and Piper Johnson, Delaney and Griffin Corbitt, and Brian and Amanda Reeder; and nephews John (Cindy) and Peter Hansford of Batavia and their families.
Wayne was an avid Chicago Bears fan and his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family in Batavia and Springfield.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester with Reverend Thomas Bellegante officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
