Virtie Mae Kern, 92, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Monday September 21, 2020.

Virtie was born on November 11, 1927 in Springfield to Willard and Goldie (Zittle) Shofner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindel Kern, in February of this year and her parents and sister, Mary Dahlkamp.

Virtie is survived by her sister, Fran Rau of Phoenix, AZ, 2 sons - Gary (Beth) Kern and Alan (Deborah) Kern, and 1 daughter - Linda (Jim) Stice.

Her grandchildren are April Reynolds, Mindy Burton , Ashley Stice, Alex (Ashley) Stice and Matthew Kern.

She also has 4 great-grandchildren.

Virtie was an excellent bowler and was very proud of her many trophies. She shared her love of cooking and baking with her family and enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and boating on Lake Springfield.

She loved the birds that used to nest by her deck and loved watching the ground squirrels in her yard. She always had a garden that she loved to work in.

She was a strong woman, knowledgeable, resourceful, hard working, and was beloved by her family.

Cremation services will be accorded.

A small graveside service will be held at Farmington Cemetery on Tuesday, September 29th at 11 am for friends and family where she will be laid to rest. Her son, Gary, will read the eulogy.
