Thomas J. Uzzo (70), of Springfield, IL, passed away on April 1, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle against cancer. Tom was born in Havre de Gras, Maryland, on November 4th, 1954, and was the son of Salvatore and Dorothy (Gordon) Uzzo. He married Susan Schroeder on October 23, 1982, in Davenport, Iowa. Tom graduated from Bettendorf High School and the University of Iowa. Tom, Sue, and their family moved to Springfield, IL in 1990. After 30 years, Tom retired from Miller Container as a Sales Representative in 2018. Tom was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and, most importantly, spending time with his loved ones. Tom is survived by his wife, Sue Uzzo of Springfield, IL; children, Kristi (Tait) Hillmer of Yorkville, IL, Tony (Becky) Uzzo of Maryville, IL, and Amanda (Nicholas) Ellinger of Lexington, IL; grandchildren, Kayla and Brock Hillmer, Zoe and Zander Uzzo, and Abigail and William Ellinger; sister, Donna Wright of Davenport, IA, sister-in-law, Connie Uzzo of Pendleton, IN; mother-in-law, Myra Schroeder formerly of Davenport, IA; as well as sisters-in-law, Beth (Steve) Schroeder-Smith of Ballwin, MO, Jane (Mark) Molohon of Springfield, IL, and Kara (Matt) Sturdevant of Haslet, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Uzzo; nephew, Dave Uzzo Jr.; granddaughter, Clare Hillmer; and his father-in-law, William Schroeder. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 East Main St. Rochester, IL. No funeral services will be held at the conclusion of the visitation.
On Saturday April 12, 2025, an additional visitation will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N Division St. Davenport, IA, beginning at 9:30am followed by a funeral mass at 10:30am. Burial will be at Memorial Park in Davenport, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Animal Protective League of Springfield, IL.
