Thomas E. Thurman, 73, of Monticello, FL, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at The Mosaic in Springfield, IL.

He was born on October 22, 1942 in Chicago, the son of Airon and Nora Lamb Thurman.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during Vietnam.  He worked as a correctional officer in Florida and was a member of the V.F.W. in Chicago and Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Danny Thurman.

He is survived by one daughter, Tara (John) Dillon of Springfield; one brother, Jimmy (Betty) Thurman of Monticello, FL; two sisters, Charmain (Greg) Small of Tallahassee FL, and Rosemary (Randall) Thompson of Ft. Myers, FL; stepmother, Violet Thurman of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Shaun, Payton and Nora Dillon; one niece, four nephews; and family friend, Josh Rowe of Monticello, FL.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
