Fullenwider Park Funeral Home
10:00 - 11:00 am (Central time)
Steven F. Hofferkamp, 81 of Illiopolis passed away April 23, 2026 at St. John’s hospital surrounded by his most prized possession, his family. Steven was born September 12, 1944 to Marjorie and John Hofferkamp. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers John, Rodney and Rocky and Sue Ealey Hofferkamp.
Steve spent his youth growing up in Montana where he developed his love for sports and horses. His family returned to the Niantic-Harristown area when Steve was in high school. During his senior year at Niantic his basketball team won the Macon County tournament. In the early 1990s, his teammates reconnected and played for a few years in the Decatur Gus Macker tournament.
After graduation, Steve got married to Sue Ealey and began working sometimes multiple jobs to support his young family. He worked for 47 years at Borden Chemical/Formosa Plastics rising to the position of Plant One Supervisor. Due to his vast knowledge of the plant, during the explosion in 2004, Steve left the safety of his family and home to assist the local and area firefighters with the layout of the plant. Steve was the last employee at the Illiopolis plant working on the cleanup of the site for several years.
What free time Steve had, he spent coaching or attending his children/grand/great-grand children’s sporting events, working in and around the house and later in life riding horses. There was nothing that brought him more joy than his family.
Steve is survived by his children, Steven (Debra) of Rochester, Lori (Jack) Campbell of Illiopolis, Scott (JoLynn) of The Woodlands, Texas, grandchildren Kyleigh (Jeremy) Covi, Paxton (Casey) Acree, Morgan Hofferkamp, Austin and Evan Hofferkamp, step-grandchildren Kaitlin and Riley Lewis, great-grandchildren Kinleigh and Bryant Covi, Campbell and Hazel Acree, and step-great-grandchild Camden Newman.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 10:00am to 11:00am at Fullenwider - Park Funeral Home in Illiopolis with a private family service following.
