Steven passed due to a long battle with an illness in the early morning of January 21st. He spent his life as a long-haul trucker. Most of his life, his friends called him "Corn-Fed". He was well liked in every aspect of his life.

He donated a lot of his time to the local storm spotters and he enjoyed his hobby as an amateur Ham Radio Operator. Steve was always there for the people that needed him and stood up for the weak and unable. He always was willing to give, even when he did not have much to give.

He married Mellisa Durch from Monmouth, IL on May 8th, 1998 and they had two sons, Charles Doss of Quincy and Steven Hays of Burlington, IA. Steve was torn in half when Mellisa passed away. Steve was preceded in death by Mellisa Hays (wife), Leslie Hays (father), Mary Hays (mother), and he is survived by Steven Hays (Destaney Noble) (son) of Burlington, IA, Charles Doss (Tabatha) of Quincy, IL (son); sister, Cathy and Tim Roberts of Colchester, IL; sister, Ann Lauber and Jerry Winfield of Winfield, IA; brother, Brian and Amy Hays of Kirkwood, IL; sister, Lisa and Toney Miraglia of Peoria, IL and a whole bunch of nieces, nephews and really good friends and family. Special mention to Brian Young who was like a son to Steve.

Cremation Services are being accorded and no services are being held at this time.
