Sharon S. (Garard) Anderson, 85, of Springfield, Il passed peacefully on Tuesday September 29, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born on June 11, 1941 in Waggoner, IL the daughter of Jennie Mae Lohman and her husband.

Sharon enjoyed reading, music, skiing, and her visits to Colorado with its natural scenic beauty. An avid animal rescue advocate, she rescued countless dogs, cats and even frogs during her lifetime. Her most beloved pets were Wolfie (dog) and Monet (cat).

Sharon was a proudly independent woman who overcame many obstacles. She cherished her long friendships established during the many years she lived in Chicago and later after returning to her childhood hometown of Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her mother; stepfather, Walter Zake; and son, Don Anderson.

Sharon is survived by her children, Dawn Anderson of Springfield, and Roderick Anderson (Cony Barassi) of Hawthorn Woods IL; grandchildren, Leah Gifford (Steve) of Minnesota, Ryan Smith (Hannah) of Springfield, Michael Anderson (Courtney) of Texas, and Jennifer Smiley (Brandon) of Texas; as well as six great grandchildren.

Sharon will be laid to rest at Rovey Cemetery outside of Farmersville, IL on Monday October 5, 2026 at 12:00pm.
