September 21, 1966 – October 12, 2021
Samuel Loren Sexton passed away suddenly at home October 12, 2021. Sam married Angela Merritt December 12, 2012. Sam is survived by his wife Angie, step daughter Lacey Stephenson (Mark) and three granddaughters he adored, Ava, Savannah and Everly, sister Kandi McCann (Matt). He is preceded in death by his grandson Kane, mother Nancy and father Jack.
Sam was a graduate of Rochester High School in 1984 where he was the Vice President of his class and a 1989 graduate of SIU Carbondale where he was active in Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Sam was a proud member IBEW local 193 and has acted as the Treasurer for many years, working as a lineman for CWLP for 30 years and served on the health insurance committee for a number of years. Sam was born in Springfield, IL to Jack and Nancy Sexton and lived his life in the Rochester, IL community where he loved going to Rochester Rockets high school football games and was on the volunteer fire department for 15 years. When he was 7 years old he and his Dad had breakfast with Lou Brock and Sam remained a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Sam loved Christmas and was very generous to any who asked for help or a favor.
Visitation is Sunday October 17, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Rochester Christian Church, 325 S. Walnut Street, in Rochester, Funeral Services will be held at the church on Monday October 18, 2021 at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Rochester Cemetery.
Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St, in Rochester, is in charge of arrangements.
