Samuel L. Hand, 74, of Pleasant Plains passed away Friday, June 3, 2016 at St. John's Hospice.

He was born February 7, 1942 the son of William and Mabel Pyle Hand. He married Judy Kay Wise on January 6, 1969. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2009.

Sam was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam era. He worked for Cartwright Township for 39 years.

He is survived by two children, Brent (Lisa) Hand of Berwyn, IL and Tonya (Dan) Dring of Winfield; five grandchildren, Nathan, Caroline, Reagan, William, and Heath; and one sister Sandra Brown of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parent; wife; three brothers, Bill, Jim, and Donald Hand; and three sisters, Dorothy Turley, Gail Roberts, and Carrie Mae Hand.

Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL 62702. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7th at the Funeral Home with Pastors Keith Masten and Duane Turley officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.
