Obituary

Ruth E. Stanley, 90, of Springfield, IL passed away on June 14, 2021 in the company of family.

Ruth was born on December 16, 1930 at home on the family farm near Sherman, the daughter of Charles and Elton (Sweet) Manley.

She graduated from Sherman Grade School and Williamsville High School. She was honored at her graduation for perfect attendance.

Ruth married Norvell Clark in 1952; he died in 1982. She then married Lawrence Stanley in 1989; and divorced in 2006. Ruth worked for 5 years in a medical group; was a homemaker for 22 years and then went to work for Memorial Medical Center for 28 years in admissions.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active in the Springfield PTA; Ruth is the former President of the Lanphier PTA. She also served as an Elder for many years at the Clementine Presbyterian Church. Ruth belonged to Home Extension, Slow Food, and the IL Stewardship Alliance.

Ruth attended Sherman United Methodist Church in Sherman. She enjoyed nursing her vegetable garden and preserving food for winter. She also enjoyed outside flower gardening and cooking food from her garden, especially her tomatoes.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, and her son, James Clark.

She is survived by her sons Thomas Clark (Kay) and Terry Clark; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday June 19, 2021 at Auburn Cemetery, 15125 Kennedy Rd, Auburn, IL 62615 at 10:30am. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Sherman United Methodist Church.
