MECHANICSBURG - Rose Mary Downing, 74, of Mechanicsburg, died June 16, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.

She was born December 9, 1938, in Decatur, Ill., to John Arthur and Doris (Baer) Arnold. She married David J. Downing on June 30, 1957, in Niantic. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her husband, David; sons, Mark (companion, Erin Mosley) and Mike (wife, Lori), all of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Cindy (husband, Rick) Ford of Chatham; six grandchildren, Megan and Garrett, Alyssa and Lindsey (their mother, Teresa), Angie and Mikey; brother, Roger (wife, Barbara) Arnold; sisters, Judy (husband, William) Sigmon and Donna (husband, Gene) Epperson; and several nieces and nephews.

She retired from nursing in 1990 having worked at Taylorville Care Center and Villa West in Sherman for a short time. She enjoyed her family and especially enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren and their activities. She loved to cook and was an avid reader.

Visitation will be at Fullenwider Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg on Wednesday, June 19, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Keith Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Harristown Cemetery in Harristown, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Niantic or the charity of the donor's choice .
