"Ron" Sczurko
July 5, 1950 – January 30, 2017
Ronald Peter "Ron" Sczurko, 66, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.
Ron was born on July 5, 1950 in Chicago the son of Peter and Dorothy Grod Sczurko. He married Linda Grant February 8, 2001 at Westside Christian Church.
Ron received his Bachelor's Degree from Western Illinois University and his Master's Degree from UIS. He began as a teacher in Farmingdale and went on to become the principal for the Middle School and High School in Pleasant Plains. Following that he became the principal of New Berlin Grade School. After retirement he went on to be a special education aide in the New Berlin School District. He was a member of Athens Christian Church, Petersburg Kiwanis and was a board member at Lake Petersburg. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Cubs and enjoyed fishing, teaching, and spending time with his grandchildren. His granddaughter would call him "Honey Bunny" and he called his grandsons "His Fishing Buddies".
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Andrea (Brian) Leas of Edwardsville; son, Aaron (Lauren) Sczurko of St. Jacob, IL; stepdaughters, Krista and Kerri Grant both of Springfield; brother, Rich (Bette) Sczurko of Crown Point, IN; three grandchildren, Sutton, Rylan and Graydon; the mother of his children, Margie Sgro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Athens Christian Church. There will be an additional visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the church with Reverend Ken Ginnicks officiating.
