Robert "Bob" Lee Spicer, 84, of Springfield, IL passed away on Thursday February 3, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center.
Bob was born in Lick, IL on June 27, 1937 the son of Earl E. and Maude J. (Bumgardner) Spicer.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson T. Spicer; sister, Hazel Bruley; and great grandson, Wyatt Wildhaber.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly J. (Fulton) Spicer; daughter, Leah (Gregg) Wildhaber; son, Robb (Lynn) Spicer; and daughter Jody Hardwick; grandchildren, Jessica (Joseph) Fortenberry, Ryan (Jordan) Spicer, Marc (Megan) Wildhaber, and David Hardwick; great grandchildren, Brayden Wildhaber, Cole Spicer, Carly Spicer, Maddie Wildhaber, Clayton Spicer, and Wesley Wildhaber; brother, Wayne (Sue) Spicer; as well as several other extended family members and friends.
Bob grew up in Virden, IL. He then married Beverly Fulton of New Berlin, IL on June 14, 1958. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from July 1956 to December 1959. Bob obtained employment with Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville, IL in 1971 at the Monterey No. 1 Mine. He transferred to the Monterey No. 2 Mine in 1978 where he retired in 1996 at the closing of the mine.
He enjoyed spending his time along the Illinois River hunting and fishing until he purchased property near Baylis, IL with family. He loved sharing his outdoor enthusiasm with family and friends and was most admired for his storytelling. He was an avid Cardinal fan and didn't miss a game. He enjoyed doing family genealogy because he thought that everyone should know who they came from to appreciate what they had in their lives.
Visitation for Bob will be from 9:30am till the time of the funeral services at 10:45am on Thursday February 10, 2022 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home in Springfield. Following the funeral services, burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
