Robert Samuel Goin Jr., 94, of Springfield, IL passed away on Sunday October 23, 2022 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. Robert was born in Springfield on Monday May 14, 1928 and was the son of Robert Samuel Goin Sr. and Elsie Mae (Van Nattan).

Robert was raised in Springfield and served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1945-1946. He married his wife Evelyn on October 31, 1946 at Third Presbyterian Church and they had been married 71 years. Evelyn preceded Robert in death in 2017. He worked for Pillsbury Mills and then joined the Springfield Police Department in 1959. He served on the Police Department until he retired in 1984.

He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Tyrian Lodge #333 and a member of the Flower City Chapter #152 Order of the Eastern Star. Robert enjoyed fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed remodeling homes in his spare time. Robert was a family man and loved to spend his winters in Weslaco, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; as well as a brother, Tom Goin; sister, Margie Yates and grandson, Brenton Goin.

He is survived by his children, Donna Cloyd of Taylorville, Jim (Susan) Goin of Las Vegas, Mike Goin of Grove, OK and Vicki (Tom) Walker of Rochester; brother, Richard (Zella) Goin of Cincinnati, OH and sister, Linda Kelley of Springfield; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Monday October 31, 2022 from 11:00am – 12:15pm at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home in Springfield. A memorial service will be at 12:30pm.  Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Third Presbyterian Church or Donor's Choice.
