SPRINGFIELD, IL - Richard "Mickey" Lee King, 84, of Springfield, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Oak Terrace Nursing Home.
Mickey was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Springfield. He married Sandra Lee Yaris in 1956.
He was a graduate of Lanphier High School where he had played on the baseball team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. He had also played baseball while in the Navy.
He was the owner of RL King Contracting from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement he started RL King Woodworking.
He enjoyed woodworking, was an avid Cardinals fan, and a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra King; two daughters, Julie (Rick) Pinneo of Springfield and Jeanette (Sean) McCartney of Wentzville, Mo.; one son, Bradley King of Springfield; one sister, Nancy (Jack) Phillips of Springfield; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Cana Roth officiating.
