SPRINGFIELD, IL - Ossie Lee Davis, 92, of Springfield, was called home to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at Heritage Health.

Mr. Davis was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Sumer, Miss., the son of Columbus and Helen Butler Davis. He married Hester Barnes on Dec. 20, 1946, in Clarksdale, Miss. They moved to Springfield, Ill., in 1947. He and Hester were married for 61 years. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2007.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army in the 461st Aviation Squadron from 1943-1946.

He was a devoted member of Colonel Otis B. Duncan American Legion Post 809. He retired from Lincoln Land Community College where he was employed as a building engineer.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Mosby Davis.

Left to cherish his memory are goddaughters, Lou Bertha Williams of California, and Irma Holloway Lott of Springfield; godson, Oscar Wayne Richie of Springfield; and numerous other godchildren and a host of friends.

Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, with the Rev. Steven Richie officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
