Norma Jean Smith, 86, formerly of Riverton, IL passed away on Saturday May 6, 2023. Norma was born in Springfield on January 26, 1937 and was the daughter of William and Gladys Truter.

Norma married her husband, John H. Smith, on June 23, 1952.  She is survived by her husband of 70+ years, John.

She is also survived by her children, Debbie Woodson, John (Lynn) Smith, Rick (Kathy) Smith, and Julie (Eileen Simpson) Smith; 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Granddaughter; 2 sisters, Kay Liggett and Beverly Williams; 1 sister-in-law, Bessie Truter, and numerous extended family members.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bill Truter; and a son-in-law, Gene Woodson.

She worked for Kroger for over 20 years as a clerk, before becoming a homemaker. She and her husband, John, spent much of their time at their camper on Otter Lake and at their 2nd home in Leesburg, FL. Norma was a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She especially loved adoring her grandchildren. Norma also enjoyed baking, growing beautiful flowers, playing cards with family and friends and looking for a "good bargain" at garage sales.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 15, 2023 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702 from 5:00pm till 7:00pm. The Funeral Ceremony will take place at the funeral home, Tuesday, May 16, at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.
