Norma Jean
Hartwig
Dec 28, 1925 — Jun 17, 2026
Norma Jean Hartwig passed away on June 17, 2026 at Rochester Estates in Rochester, Illinois. She was born on December 28, 1925 in Decatur, Illinois. She was 100 yrs old!
Norma was born to John and Etta Buchter. She had two brothers - Laverne (Elsie Helen) and Dellas (Esther). Norma also had four sisters - Velma (Lloyd) Salisbury, Violet (Ralph) Goken, Dessie (Joe) Wierney, and Elsie Mae (Thaxton) Godbey.
Norma grew up on a farm near Blue Mound, Illinois. She met her husband Richard (Dick) from Niantic while in high school. They were married in January 11, 1948. They had two children - Sandy (Mike) McConnell, and Jim (Joyce). They also had three grandchildren - Kimberly McConnell, Gabe Hartwig, and Chelsea Hartwig. Dick preceded Norma in death in 2013.
Norma was a member of Southern View Chapel in Springfield the last 44 years. She committed her life to Jesus Christ in 1982 along with her husband Dick.
Norma was quite the dancer and cheerleader in high school. She could sew, knit, cook, and find a bargain. Never a person to watch TV or read much, Norma always preferred keeping busy doing something with her hands. Dick and Norma were members of a pinochle card club for decades. She was quick to volunteer when needs arose and made friends with everyone. Even in her last few months of life, Norma was busy helping those in need at her assisted living facility.
