Obituary

Maryann Carol Hensey (Wathern), 83, of Rochester, Illinois, passed away July 4, 2025, in the comfort of Carriage Crossing, surrounded by her family, following a lengthy illness. She is now at peace, reunited with her loving husband of 61 years, George, in their eternal home.

Maryann was born September 24,1941, in Mt. Olive, Illinois to Fred and Bernice Wathern.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Maryann enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her husband.  She was an avid gardener and loved to feed the hummingbirds; enjoyed cooking, baking and cherished her time with her grandchildren; skilled at sewing and quilting creating many blankets and children's apparel for family, musically inclined (playing the piano, clarinet and saxophone).  Maryann was a lively, energetic soul with a great sense of humor and a kind and generous spirit.

She was preceded in death by George E Hensey in 2024, Joyce Birdsell, sister, Jim Wathern, brother, Robert Wyatt, brother-in-law and parents Fred and Bernice Wathern. She is survived by her sister Karen (Gary) Fyalka of Mount Olive, IL; sister-in-law Linda Wyatt of Springfield, IL;  Children:  Deborah (Patrick) O'Dell, Terry (Susan) Hensey, Stephanie Hoover, Marci Hensey and son-in-law Harvey Hoover, all residing in Rochester, IL;  Grandchildren:  Alexandra and Sophia Hoover, and Tanner and Camden Hensey; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Maryann graduated from Mt. Olive High School in 1959 and was a dedicated State of Illinois employee for 32 years, retiring from the Governor's Office in the Bureau of the Budget.

A family gathering is scheduled on George and Maryann's anniversary to celebrate their lives.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
