Mary Ann Fitchett, 91, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Lewis Memorial Christian Village Hospice on August 15, 2021.

Mary Ann was born on March 21, 1930 in Hermann, MO, the daughter of Alex and Hazel Vogel. Preceding her in death was her much loved husband George Fitchett and her sister Ruth and brother-in-law Earl Becker.

She met George at Central MO State College where they both graduated in 1952 and they were married August 10, 1952. She taught grade school in Ferguson, MO Public Schools in the mid 1950's and preschool in the mid 1960's at Eden Lab School in Webster Groves, MO. Upon moving to Springfield, IL in 1970 she was a substitute teacher retiring as a teacher's aide in 1995. She was a member of Jerome United Methodist Church, a lifelong Cardinals fan as well as a prolific writer of poems for any occasion, which she enjoyed reading aloud.  She will be dearly missed by all her friends and loved ones.

She is survived by her son, Gregg Fitchett (fiancée Susan Sanchez); grandchildren, Katie and Zachary Fitchett and Abigail Millin; nieces and nephews, Mike and Linda Becker, Tim and Patty Sullivan and Mark and Lynn Becker and Nelda Becker and their children.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until noon. Funeral Service will be at 12 noon, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Jerome United Methodist Church with Pastor Donn Stephens officiating. There will be no graveside service but she will be interred at Camp Butler National Cemetery with her husband George.
