Obituary

Margaret Ethel Stephens passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the age of 92, at Aperion Capitol Care after a long illness.

Margaret was born in Edinburg, IL on September 25, 1929 to Carl and Edith Lofquist.  She lived her entire adult life in Springfield, IL.

Margaret retired from the Secretary of State after many years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles V. Stephens, a grandson, William "Billy" Bierbaum, granddaughter Kara Lookis, son-in-law Andrew Robertson, three brothers-in-laws, and her parents Carl and Edith Lofquist, as well as two brothers, Elmer and Leroy Lofquist and two sisters, Eva Atkinson and Ora Johnson.

She is survived by her children Eleanor Robertson, Margaret Bierbaum (William), Janet Lookis (Jerry), her son Charles Stephens, several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two sisters, Mary Edstrom and Dorothy McGhiey (Donald).

Margaret enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking for her family. She also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting. Margaret was a woman of Faith and went to church often her whole life.

Graveside services will be held on Friday March 4, 2022 at Old Salem Cemetery/ Riddle Hill outside of Springfield. The service will begin at 11:00am with Pastor Keith Maston.

Cremation services provided by Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home.
