Obituary

Lucy Mae Gideon, 89, of Roby, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Lucy was born on March 1, 1937, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Mary Cook. She married Robert Eugene Gideon, on October 15, 1955, at Edinburg Christian Church in Edinburg, Illinois. Together they shared a devoted marriage and celebrated 70 wonderful years together this past October.

Lucy had a deep passion for cooking and was especially known for her baking. She loved preparing cakes and pies for her family and friends and was honored to create many wedding and birthday cakes for her loved ones over the years. Lucy was also an avid crocheter and knitter and continued enjoying these hobbies throughout her life.

Lucy had a generous heart and a welcoming home. She would do anything for anyone and always made sure those around her felt comfortable and cared for. Above all, Lucy cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she found her greatest joy in her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eleven siblings; her son, Timothy Allen Gideon; and her grandson, Colton Eugene Gideon.

Lucy is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Gideon of Roby; her children, Dennis (Sue) Gideon of Springfield, Kathryn (Michael) Lebshier of Roby, and Christopher (Naome) Gideon of Roby; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Anna) Cook of Faribault, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members.

Cremation services have been accorded.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Rochester, Illinois 62563. A memorial service will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Hanson officiating.
