Lindel R. Kern, 94, of Springfield IL, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at St. John's Hospital.

Lindel was born in Springfield IL, on February 20, 1926 the son of Ralph and Louise Kern.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lindel is survived by his wife, Virtie Mae (Shofner) Kern; his children, Gary (Beth) Kern, Alan (Deborah) Kern, and Linda (Jim) Stice; 5 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Lindel served as a combat infantryman with the 44th Infantry Division during World War II.  He also served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received a Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge.

He was a pilot, a mechanic and a salesman. He loved life and was loved by his family and his many, many friends and associates.

Cremation services will be accorded.

Military honors will be held at Farmingdale Cemetery and a private family memorial service will be held on a separate date.
