John J Turasky Sr. (Sonny) age 79 of Springfield died at 3:05 PM on March 15, 2016 at the Villa Healthcare East in Sherman, IL.

John was born on August 30 1936 in Springfield, the son of John and Della Turasky.  He married Marcella Webb on April 15, 1966 and she preceded him in death on August 10, 1990.

A lifelong Springfield resident John attended SS. Peter & Paul grade school graduating in 1951. He attended Cathedral Boys High School graduating in 1955. John worked at Geitl Brothers garage right out of high school, CWLP, and The State of Illinois at McFarland Zone Center in the power house. John also worked for the laborers Local 477, Winters TV & Noonan's Hardware retiring in 2004. John served 10 years in the 33rd Infantry division Illinois National Guard achieving rank of Sergeant. John loved to fish and be outdoors.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by one son John (Angela) Turasky of Sherman, two daughters, Vicky (Jerry) Hare and Shelly (husband, Joe) Hatcher both from Springfield; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Robert P. Turasky of St Louis; and  several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Sr. Mary Jean Traeger O.P. officiating.  Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors prior to the beginning of the service.
