Obituary

Jimmy E. Floyd, 79, of Illiopolis, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Jimmy was born on August 28, 1946, in Meredosia, Illinois, the son of Shirley and Hazel (Birchard) Floyd. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On December 27, 1964, he married Darlene Sziber, and together they shared 61 years of marriage.

Jimmy was a member of American Legion Post 73 in Taylorville. He enjoyed attending car shows and parts swap meets, gardening, and could often be found in his “second home”—his garage. He was employed at Borden Chemical/Formosa Plastics until its closure, after which he worked for the Sangamon Valley School District as a janitor and later as a crossing guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Angela Whitehead; and his brothers, Richard, Don, and Robert Floyd.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Kathy Godden, Tracy (Scott) Fields, Mike Floyd, and Kevin (Pam) Floyd; his special niece, Becky Underwood; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Michael (Beverly) Floyd; his sister, Shirley Michel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 432 7th Street in Illiopolis. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Illiopolis Summer Recreation Program or the Sangamon Valley Schools Lunch Program.
