Jimmie Joe Schmitt, 83, of Springfield, IL, passed away on November 23rd, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center.

Jimmie was born on June 14th, 1936 in Vandalia, IL, the son of John F. and Fern (Evans) Schmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Sherri (husband, Dirk) McCoy of Oak Park, IL; son, Andy (wife, Tina) Schmitt of Springfield; grandchildren, Rachel McCoy, Alex McCoy, Molly McCoy, Katelyn Schmitt, Claire Schmitt, and Cassandra Schmitt; sister, Jackie Stowe, and Edith Schmitt.

Jimmie, a follower of Christ, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Anyone that knew him, knew he was passionate about sports, whether as a coach or a fan. He spent years teaching, coaching and woodworking.

Throughout his life, he was known as an encourager to many people, and influenced countless lives. After retiring, he focused his attention towards his grandchildren and their athletic pursuits.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 29, 2019 from 10am till 12 noon at Calvary Church, 1730 W Jefferson St, Springfield, IL 62702. The funeral will take place at 12 noon, with Pastor Paul Rose officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Convoy of Hope.
