James Luther Ridgeway, Sr.
EDINBURG, IL - James Luther Ridgeway, Sr., 84, passed away at the VA Illiana Health Care facility in Danville, Ill., on January 19, 2014.
He was born on July 30, 1929, in Mount Auburn, Ill., the son of Luther D. Ridgeway and Josephine (Prior) Ridgeway. He married Hollis Lee Andrews in Rochester on Aug. 21, 1952. They were married 61 years. She survives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Knowles; and ane brother, Robert Ridgeway.
Jim was a retired U. S. Army veteran, enlisting at the age of 17 in July 1946 and retiring after 29 years of honorable service in August 1975 as CSME9. He served in combat in Korea and Vietnam receiving a Purple Heart along with many other citations. Jim retired from Toyota after 13 years of working in sales.
He is survived by his, wife, Hollis Lee; son, James L. Ridgeway, Jr., of Edinburg; a brother, Edwin (wife, Mary Lou) Ridgeway, of Kincaid; a sister, Doris Butler, of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Edinburg, 109 E. Washington Street. Funeral services will be at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, January 24, at the funeral home with Reverend Gaylord Spilker officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
