James Junior "Bud" Jeffers
ROCHESTER, IL - James Junior "Bud" Jeffers, 82, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home.
James was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Longview, the son of Melvin and Agnes Wade Jeffers. He married Shirley Jeffers in 1954 and later divorced in 1984.
Growing up on a farm led him to getting his bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Illinois and teaching agriculture in school for three years. He was also part-owner of the Heritage House and Subway Restaurants. He was an avid distance runner and participated in Abe's Amble each year. He enjoyed playing racquetball at the YMCA, hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, singing, and was a member of a gospel quartet. He was a St. Louis Cardinal's and Illini fan and coached youth little league baseball. He was a member of Rochester Christian Church for over 40 years. He served as deacon and elder during that time as well as teaching Sunday school. He was also a Rochester School Board member during the late 70's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Derald Jeffers; and two sisters, Sharon Monroe and Ruby Kersey.
He is survived by five sons: Michael (Brenda), Mark (Rindie) and Dan Jeffers all of Rochester, Mitchell Jeffers of Jacksonville Fla., and Jacob (Holly) Jeffers of Kingsport, Tenn.; one brother, Carl Jeffers of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Frances (Don) Brower of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Rochester Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the church with the Rev. David Upchurch and the Rev. Mike Jakaitis officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
