James "Hippy" F. Hays, 53, of Springfield, IL passed away on Thursday November 28, 2024 at home. Hippy was born in Taylorville, IL on May 18, 1971 the son of Edward and Martha (Weekly) Hays.

Hippy was an easy-going man that greatly enjoyed spending time with his significant other, Sarah Rosa, for almost 25 years.  He was also a proud father, grandfather, and family man. Hippy was a mechanic by trade but had a passion for cars. He loved working on cars both building and fixing them.

Hippy was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Hays Jr.; son-in-law, Matthew Lelys; and sister-in-law, Rita Hays.

He is survived by his significant other, Sarah Rosa of Springfield; children, Amber Lelys, Andrew Hays, Alex Hays, and Lexi Hays all of Springfield; grandchildren, MJ and Lilly Lelys of Springfield; bonus children, Austin, Lea, and Eriq Rosa; brothers, Brian and Mark (Deb) Hays; sisters-in-law, Samantha (Brenda) Rosa, Michelle Rosa, Debbie Hill, Diana (Kyle) Taylor, Jamie Mullens, and Cassandra Rosa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Cremation services are being accorded and a celebration of life will be announced in the future.
