James William Hansen, 76, passed away at 8:08 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center.

James was born to James W. Atkinson and Normalee Loss Atkinson Hansen. He was later adopted by Raymond G. Hansen. He was raised in the North end of Springfield.

He married Mary Edith Robertson on September 2, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Lewis C. Niemoeller officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Christine.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his wonderful children, Michael James (Brandy) Hansen and Kathryn Mary Hansen; one sister, Lynn M. Hansen; two nieces, April L. Elder, Samantha E. Elder; and a grand nephew, Landon Elder.

He enjoyed traveling with the family, helping with his children's projects, riding his motorcycle, and listening to recorded books.

He worked at Huber Pontiac and retired from Giuffre Buick, after 40 plus years in body work. He was Sergeant At Arms in the Machinists Local 1815 Union even after retiring.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Ellinger­Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home at 12:00 Noon, Monday, August 29, 2016 with Rev. Thomas Radtke officiating.   Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Clear Lake.
