PLEASANT PLAINS, IL - James C. Hand, 77, went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, surrounded by his family.
James was born on March 20, 1938, in Pleasant Plains, the son of William and Mabel Hand. He married Dolores J. Grant on Nov. 22, 1959; she preceded him in death on March 2, 2013.
He worked as the Road Commissioner for Cartwright Township for 38 years alongside his brother, Sam. He was an avid Cubs fan, an outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Gail Roberts, Dorothy Turley and Carrie Mae Hand; and one brother, Donald Ray Hand.
He is survived by three sons, Steve (Lora) of Pleasant Plains, Mark (Rhonda) of South Carolina and Brian (Chris) Hand of Springfield; two brothers, William (Naomi) and Samuel Hand, both of Pleasant Plains; one sister, Sandra Brown of Springfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home in Springfield.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Masten officiating.
Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richland Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains.
