James Edward Curtis, 66, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his home.

Jimmy was born on September 27, 1958, in Springfield, the son of Thomas and Mary (Vaughn) Curtis. He married Rhonda Smith on July 21, 1995. Jimmy worked for Republic Services for over 33 years. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports and NASCAR, and spending time with his family.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; son, Joey Vespa; and adoptive parents, Rose and Bud Abel.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; children, Nicole (Thomas) Elfgen, James Aaron Curtis, Phil (Brittany) Vespa, Shawn Vespa, Jared Curtis and Jamie Curtis, as well as two sisters; several grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jimmy's life will be held from 1:00-4:00PM on Saturday, June 28, at Comfort Inn & Suites, 3675 S 6th St Frontage Road, Springfield, IL 62703.
