IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacqualine M.
Kelzer
May 27, 1944 – December 19, 2025
Jacqualine “Jackie” (Wendling) Kelzer, 81, of Springfield, passed away on December 19, 2025 at Arc of Sangamon Valley, in Springfield, IL. Jackie was born on May 27, 1944, in Shakopee, MN, the daughter of Bernard and Hazzle (Niesen) Wendling. Jackie grew up in Shakopee, a small town in Minnesota, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Leonard “Lenie.” Together, they built a life filled with love, memories, and family.
Jackie was an incredible gardener, transforming her backyard into a beautiful, welcoming retreat filled with flowers and thoughtful decorations. Guests rarely entered through the front door—Jackie could almost always be found in the backyard, lovingly tending to her gardens. While she took great pride in her flowers, the only thing she loved more than her garden was her family.
She delighted in watching her family grow, from children to grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on through every activity and adventure. Jackie was their biggest supporter and constant source of encouragement.
She was also a devoted fan of the Rochester football team, seldom missing a game, whether listening on the radio or watching on her computer. She cheered passionately, always believing in the team and hoping for great things.
Jackie will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and the beauty she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; sisters, Judy, Geri, Joanne, and Patty; brother, Doug; and granddaughter, Amanda Kelzer.
She is survived by her children, Jill (Brad) Menezes, of Rochester, IL., Heather (Mark) Osborn of Gifford, IL., Kimberly (Richard) Thompson of Minneapolis, MN., and Todd Kelzer of Athens, IL.; five grandchildren, Kathryn (Scott) Knoles, Lenie Kelzer, Sarah (Drew) Halter, Samantha (Tim) Comisky, Stephanie (Daniel) Salovesh; fourteen great grandchildren, and one sister, Jeanne (David) Balduf.
Cremation was accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Marks Cemetery in Shakopee, MN.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
