Jack Zucco, 17, of Rochester, IL, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Born in Grayling, MI on October 3, 2008, Jack was the cherished son of Marc and Carrie (Garrett) Zucco. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lary Garrett.
Jack is survived by his devoted parents; his grandparents, Michael and Rebecca Zucco of Decatur and Mary Garrett of Elmwood; his three adoring sisters, Molly, Adele, and Lucy Zucco of Rochester; his aunt, Sara (Brandon) Goode of Chapel Hill, NC; his uncles, Matt (Britta) Zucco of Decatur and Adam (Samantha) Garrett of Palos Park, IL; as well as several cousins and countless friends who meant the world to him.
Jack was a young man of physical, mental, and spiritual grit. He was authentic, and he was drawn to the authentic. He lived his faith so genuinely that it seemed to be infused with his very being. His faith and grit showed up every single day as he could not be outworked and he never let an opportunity to help go by unanswered.
Jack loved life! He loved his family, friends, and strangers. When he was 3 years old, he announced to his Sunday school class, “I’m Jack, and I’m here to play!” He grew up trying all the things. He soon settled on wrestling, soccer, pole vault, and most recently playing guitar. Jack also loved spending time with family and friends at Krekels. He was involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was an Eagle Scout candidate. He was also going to Philmont this coming summer.
He was an active member at his parish as an altar server, working the fish frys, VBS, and was headed to Rome in August on the Youth Mission Trip. He served his community by working the fields at the ballpark for RYAA, and worked as a lifeguard at the Springfield Elks Lodge #158. He was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and helper to anyone that would have him. Jack turned people into the best versions of themselves, and he didn’t even know it. His humility was something to behold.
He taught us to love and to let God’s light shine.
Memorials can be made to RYAA for the Jack Zucco Memorial Scholarship, BSA Troop 40, and/or Church of St. Jude for the youth mission trip/Catholic Heart Work Camp.
